Tip of the Week - December 7, 2009

Care of Your Cut Christmas Tree. . .
To keep your tree fresh and fragrant throughout the holiday season....
  • Cut a minimum of 1/2 inch off the base of the trunk prior to placing in stand to remove sap and allow water absorption.
  • Place your tree in a stand that hold plenty of water.
  • Check water supply daily.
  • Do not let water level drop below fresh cut line or a new sap plug will form preventing your tree from drinking water.
  • Place tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources that will prematurely dry the tree.
During its growing years, your tree cleansed the air, provided you with oxygen, protected your water supply, made a home for wildlife and beautified some previously barren land. For each Christmas tree harvested, two or three are replanted to continue this cycle.

All your holiday greens, wreaths and Christmas tree will benefit from an application of Wilt-Pruf. This is especially critical considering the unusual warm weather. Wilt-Pruf will aid in retaining moisture and thus preventing premature drying from the warm weather.
