Tip of the Week - February 11, 2008

Caring for your Cut Flowers. . .
1) After cutting, flowers should be kept in water at all times. If you can't, wrap wet towels or paper around cut stems.

2) Cut diagonally about 1" with clean/sharp scissors.

3) Remove foliage that will fall below water line.

4) Use perfectly clean containers or vases.

5) Keep flowers in warm water.

6) Add flower food such as Floralife to inhibit bacteria and promote the flowers to bloom.

7) Check water daily and add warm water if needed.

8) Keep flowers away from ripening fruit and dying flowers, because they emit ethylene gas.

9) Keep flowers away from direct heat/direct sun.

10) Remove any flowers or leaves that are wilting or dying.

11) If you are not using flower food, add a few drops of bleach Change the water every other day and re-cut stems 1 inch.
